Do you lose sleep at night because you lie awake thinking about how you could have done things better at work or at home? I spend most my nights awake reflecting on my day. I've tried reflecting in the evenings or even right after school. This doesn't work. Apparently my brain wants to take a nap from 10pm - 1:30am, and then lie awake from 1:30am to 4:00am talking to itself. When I have nights like this (They are more frequent than i'd like them to be) I embrace them. I've learned to sleep with a notepad next to me. The notepad helps me to write down the things I want to remember. I don't get up or turn on a light. I just lean over and scribble in the dark so I don't wake my husband.
Reflection is good for the soul. Reflecting makes me a better teacher, mom, wife, and business owner, and really just an all around person.
No matter who you are or what your profession is, I implore you to reflect! Use it to help you move forward, to work out your feelings and then the next time that situation arises you will be prepared to handle it.
