Instead of a regular Christmas party this year we are going with an ELF theme. Not elf, as in Santa's elves but ELF the movie. We are going to wear our PJ's and have asked our parents to bring in elf sized foods or foods inspired by the movie. We love to have parties at school, play games and enjoy the kids and invite the parents in to have some fun. We try and come up with fun new themes rather than just saying we are having a plain old Christmas party. For example a few years ago we wrapped a box for each kids, wore pj's, made hot chocolate and had each child climb into the box "train" and read them the Polar Express. As always we end each party with a dance party! We love to dance, and its great to see all the parent dancing with their kids.
Another special thing we like to do each year is help the kids to make an ornament in class. We have them wrap it and give it to their families as a gift for Christmas. Each year we do a different ornament. Sometimes these ornaments can take several days to complete.
We found this popsicle stick santa craft on pinterest. It was not meant to be a ornament but the same day we did this craft Mrs. Layne was putting up our classroom tree. When the kids got done with their craft they felt compelled to hang it up on the tree. We took them off and help the kids add a ribbon to the back so that they would hang better from the tree. The kids we delighted to decorate the tree with their craft.
